Ultimate stare down by yuni Ultimate stare down by yuni
Mowgli is notorious for his ability to stare down any animal in the jungle, even Bagheera cannot withstand that stare -- it doesn't really seem to work against Kaa, though?

What a silly competition, not to mention each time after the hypnosis Mowgli has to wake up squeezed in many odd ways between the coils, it's always hard to tell hands from feet after hours of "playing" with Kaa XD

Which is sadly not depicted here...

--
"The Jungle Book" series and its characters were created by Rudyard Kipling.

Kaa was always my favorite Jungle Book character. :) It's kind of weird, though, how he's a wise mentor in the original stories and even in the Sabu film, and a cowardly failed-cannibal villain in the Disney cartoons.

Also, Kaa's hypnosis didn't work on Mowgli in the books...looks like you're going for a compromise here.

This reminds me of your Mohan and Miyavi, but more cinematic (which is a very good thing)

you could definitely cast Kipling's stories in a 'fresh light' (Lewis Carroll approves :P)

I watched the Alexander Korda version of Jungle Book the other day starring Sabu. He was such a beautiful man.

Oh yeah, I think Sabu is the best Mowgli thus far ^-^
Though I'd vote for a long-haired Mowgli, not sure how good long hair would look on Sabu though, but in the Jungle Book Mowgli had a long beautiful hair that would often fall on his pretty face ^^ (almost citing the book)
All in all, it's pretty clear from the phrases here and there in the book that Mowgli wasn't at all ugly ^_^

You know, I have never read the actual books. I should look them up.
I tried reading Kim once and it put me off Kipling but maybe I was too young for Kim (I should try Kim again too come to think of it).

I must confess I know very little about Rudyard Kipling's other works. His Jungle book is classical but I haven't read anything else except maybe Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, my dad read it to me when I was little...

Well, it's techically very nice, like almost all of your works, but lacks so much on the anatomy department that it makes me shiver.
I'll let the overly puffy chest and long nostrils slide since you have better works in the same subject, so I'll give just few pointers for the snake.

Snakes usually have quite flat head, (as seen here [link] ) but the most disturbing part in this is how the neck part suddenly gets ultra thin which causes the head look too large even though it's okay compared to the overall body.
Snake's neck actually gets thinner than the cheeks and the way it get's thicker is almost un-noticeable, though there are differences between the species.
[link]

Usually I wouldn't give crits on a pic as old as this, but I've seen some artists repeat the same mistakes for years, and the aren't other snakes in your gallery, so I can't see have you improved.

Those pics don't show the snake's head from the position I needed, but very helpful references anyway. Thank you ^_^

Well then there's this little device that'll surely prove useful later: [link]
And besides, taking a photo that's exactly in the position you want and copying that is always more ineffectual than finding pics that are somewhat close to what you need, and then excercising your shape recognition ability. ;D

Very great art. I like the snake which is drawn in a very realistic style. Mowgli himself looks very great, even if I must honestly say that I like the other Mowgli a little bit more. Don't get me wrong! He looks great, but in the other picture "Meowglee" he looked just genial.
I am looking forward to see more of your art. Especially maybe something with Mowgli again.

I always disliked how Disney made Kaa into a villain. It annoyed me so much as a kid, that I couldn't watch the movie. I always preferred Shonen Mowgli , it was such a long show with great character development.

"They would rock to and fro, head to head, each waiting for his chance, till the beautiful, statue-like group melted in a whirl of black- and-yellow coils and struggling legs and arms, to rise up again and again."

-- Rudyard Kipling, "The King's Ankus".

You've certainly captured the "beautiful" part. I just love the detail in this picture. More Mowgli soon, please. I'm really looking forward to seeing (ahem) more sides to his character...!
