This is a game engine I started working on a week ago. Well, I've already drawn so many characters but don't they all need a nice world to live in? I've been trying to learn how to paint backgrounds for centuries but I still suck at it... so! Eventually I thought, why not try making it in a form of a game
This demo is just the first week of work, about 30K of scripts and a few sprites. You can't really do anything except scrolling around and there's no main hero... yet! And just ignore the unfinished house if you happen to find it
Please feel free to check it out and let me know if it works for you and how you feel about it! Of course there will be many updates ahead!
CONTOR...TROLS (click the game area to activate them):F.A.Q.
Up, Down, Left, Right - scroll
A - toggle atmospheric effects and lighting (for slow computers maybe?)
F - toggle the decorative frame
N - crossfade to "another" location (just a test)
S - "save game" test (plz try and tell me if it works)
Z - zoom out (for debugging)
(not that there were any questions yet, so I made them up
Q: The demo doesn't start! Or runs too slow...
Get Flash Player 10
to play this one if you haven't already. Also it will probably require a modern computer, if you see something close to "99% cpu" in the corner then your machine might be too slow for the next demo... For me it's 18% when just looking and about 35-40% while scrolling (E8500).
Q: What kind of game it's gonna be?
A huge world where you can go back to any location you want at any time and there won't be any "final goal" that would end the game, nor any storyline that would treat you like a puppet
In other words, the concept of the world will be in a way similar to games like The Elder Scrolls. I'll just let the world evolve freely to something bigger and better in every new version but what to do in the game will be up to the player :3
Q: Now how do -I- make a game like this??
Umm... I use ActionScript 3 and Adobe Flex 3.4, but those are just a scripting language and a compiler, everything else I have to create on my own from the scratch, exactly because I couldn't find any existing Flash game engine to fit my needs - so I'm actually making one and it will probably take months before its finished :]
